Privacy at Invitae
Our commitment to protecting your information
Invitae is a leading medical genetics company, delivering genetic testing services and combining genetic and clinical information to power better health care decisions and drive medical research, improving the quality of healthcare for billions of people worldwide. From day one, patients owning and controlling their data has been one of our core principles. Our policies grant rights above and beyond our legal obligations, specifically how patients control the sharing of their de-identified data.
This page explains in high-level terms how Invitae protects patient data and empowers patients to set choices about how their data is used and shared for Invitae’s portfolio of products and services. It also provides links to more detailed information about Invitae’s privacy practices, both for its entire portfolio, and those for specific products. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us.
How does Invitae protect my data?
Invitae has put measures in place to keep your data safe and secure such as:
- Limiting access to your data through technical, administrative, and physical safeguards, including robust privacy and security measures.
- Allowing you to choose how your personal information is shared.
For more information on these practices, please review our Privacy Policy.
How does Invitae use or share my data?
For genetic testing services
Invitae uses your data collected in association with a genetic test to perform certain activities that are a core part of Invitae’s genetic testing services. Invitae also performs certain research and commercial activities for which patients may set their preferences in the Invitae patient portal. For more details on these activities, please see our Privacy Policy, Section 12 (Genetic Testing Services).
Data use transparency and impact
Through Invitae, your de-identified data are advancing medical genetics and enabling the use of “real world” data to aid the development of new treatments. In 2023, Invitae released our updated Data use transparency and impact report, which lists all the ways de-identified data from Invitae patients were repurposed in 2022 to advance the field of genetics research.
